Visualising research by academics

So a while back, we got the opportunity to film season 2 for the Research Communication project by the Maastricht University School of Business and Economics.

We were asked to film research projects by academics, thus making these projects visible to the world.

Quick breakdown:

We were in touch with academics about their research during pre-production. Giving suggestions from our end to make sure the content is not overly long or complicated. There is room to go more in-depth once viewers proceed to a web page for example, to find more info. But the first trigger is there in video format. Call it a teaser.

After the location was found, we planned the researchers back-to-back and used a teleprompter so the text could be read on-screen to make sure no nuances were left out during filming. We gave tips on how to stand, present and generally tried to make them feel comfortable. Honestly though, most of these academics did not need a lot of coaching.

After filming, we retrieved relevant stock footage to strengthen the text and created animations if necessary.

We are finding more and more that universities and academics deem it important to have their projects highlighted in a visual manner. Making it known the public, in a nuanced and well-balanced manner.

We did quite a lot of these already, and are thoroughly enjoying it.

Thank you, Kars Mennens (speaking in this behind-the-scenes shot), Nima Hassanloo for communication & coordination, Kendra Valck-White, for trusting us again with this project, Job Bos for working together, again.

And of course all the other researchers that have been in front of our cameras to this day.
