Pyrolysis experimental unit at UGhent
Syschemiq project
In this video Andrea Nino-Garcia (WP leader for collection, sorting and pre-treatment of plastic waste at Syschemiq), Kevin van Gheem (Professor at Ghent University), Laura Pires da Mata Costa and Shouzhuang Li (Doctoral researchers at Ghent University) explain how this unit converts plastic into pyrolsis oil that can be used as raw material for the production of circular plastics. In pyrolysis it is still challenging to fully understand how plastic's composition and especially how contaminants present in plastic waste affect the quality of pyrolysis oil. That's why Syschemiq, Ghent University, Maastricht University and SABIC have joined forces to build a pyrolysis experimental unit. The unit is fundamental for the Syschemiq project to understand the cause effect relationship between the plastic waste and pyrolysis oil quality.
